Soup and Substance - Dr. Joy Yang Jiao

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join our free soup and substance event on October 17th, 2019, from 12:30 - 1:30pm in the McNair Center. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided and students will receive excel credit. 

The subject will be focused around Regained in Fascination, Lost in Translation: Visibility, (Mis)representation, and Appropriation of Indigenous Cultures in Mainstream Media. 

Dr. Joy Yang Jiao received her PhD in communication from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She worked as the international relations specialist at the United Nations, New York headquarter. Her research focuses on nation branding, critical public diplomacy, and cross-cultural communication.


The Soup & Substance Series is a monthly event featuring topics related to Diversity & Inclusion. The lunchtime discussions are designed to encourage thought provoking discussions among students, faculty, and staff at Northwood University.
