The Financial Industry’s Actions During A Pandemic Webinar

The financial industry, like others, has adapted to our new and challenging times. Sandy Pierce, Northwood University Outstanding Business Leader for 2020, will talk about Huntington Bank’s actions to support their colleagues, customers, and community. John Augustine will continue the conversation, providing additional insight into the economic impacts of the pandemic.

About Sandy Pierce-

Sandy Pierce joined Huntington Bank in 2016 after the FirstMerit merger and leads four corporate-wide revenue segments for the $109 billion regional bank: Huntington Private Bank, Huntington Insurance, Huntington Auto Finance and RV/Marine. Sandy also has management responsibility for Huntington’s Community Development initiatives and Regional Presidents across its seven-state footprint. In addition, she serves as Chair of Huntington in Michigan and is responsible for all state activities.

Prior to Huntington, Sandy was named Vice Chairman of FirstMerit Corporation and Chairman and CEO of FirstMerit Michigan. Led initiatives to streamline operations across the customer contact center, mortgage, commercial loans division, facilities and human resources through process re-engineering and vendor partnerships. Championed a renewed focus on culture by leading campaign to launch updated corporate values and engagement plan.

Sandy was appointed by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing to chair the nine-person Detroit Financial Advisory Board commissioned under the Detroit Financial Stability Agreement between the Mayor of Detroit, the Detroit City Council, the State Treasurer and the Governor. The Financial Advisory Board provided specific and targeted operational and technical support and consultation in areas including information technology, payroll and accounting, financial recordkeeping and reporting, internal controls, data management and analytics, enterprise application implementation, actuarial analysis and benefits management, state and federal grant management, revenue assessment and forecasting.She named as chair of the board of Henry Ford Health System, one of the country's largest health care systems and a national leader in clinical care, research and education. It includes the 1,200-physician Henry Ford Medical Group, six hospitals, Health Alliance Plan, and multiple primary-care centers throughout southeast Michigan. Henry Ford is a major economic driver and employs more than 32,000.

Sandy also served as chair of the 2009 Mackinac Policy Conference, the largest policy conference of its kind in the nation with more than 1,300 in attendance representing business, civic and community leaders, including 90 federal and state legislators and 100 working media.

About John Augustine

John has spent over 30 years as an investment manager, investment strategist and economic strategist for various financial institutions. He joined Columbus, Ohio-based Huntington Bank in May 2014 as Chief Investment Officer for the Huntington Private Bank®. In this role, he oversees more than $17 billion in assets under management.

Prior to joining Huntington, John was with Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati for 16 years in many roles, including senior portfolio manager, mutual fund manager, equity team leader, investment strategist and economic strategist. He also has worked at Star Banc in Ohio, Heritage Trust and Asset Management in Colorado, and IDS Financial Services in Colorado.

John is a former president and board member for the Dayton Society of Financial Analysts and was a long-time adjunct professor in the graduate school at the University of Dayton. He currently is involved with the Global Asset Management Education forum offered through Quinnipiac University every spring in New York City to 1400 college students from throughout the U.S. and overseas.

John holds the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst and a bachelor’s degree from the Ohio State University. He also is a graduate of the Midwest Bankers Association Trust School. He frequently shares his insights with the national media, including the Wall Street Journal, CNN, Reuters, Fox News, CNBC and Bloomberg, among others.
