Lt. Colonel Allen B. West: Life and Thought of Booker T. Washington

Colonel West has largely spent his life in the service of America. Formerly, he was a US Army lieutenant colonel, a member of a family of four generations who have served in the military.   A veteran of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, with, he is the recipient of 3 Meritorious Service Medals, and three Army Commendation Medals, a Bronze star.   In 2010, he  was elected to the Congress from the 22nd congressional district of Florida He was the first black Republican to be elected from Florida since reconstruction. While in Congress, he voted for the Balanced Budget Amendment, and voted for over 30 different bills designed to empower small businesses, reduce government barriers to job creation, boost American competitiveness, encourage entrepreneurship and growth.  He is currently the Director of the Booker T. Washington Initiative at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a contributing columnist for  He has written 2 books:   Guardian of the Republic: An American Ronin’s Journey to Family, Faith and Freedom.  And  Hold Texas, Hold the Nation: Victory or Death. He also hosts the podcast “The Old School Patriot”.  He is here to tell us about the achievements and continuing relevance of one of his personal heroes and role models:  Booker T. Washington.
